This year we celebrated our 60th Anniversary with a performance of Cantata 207A and
the highly demanding motel Singet Dem Herrn.
As Margaret Steinitz tells us on the next page, when DBCC started, we were something
of a cult. Bach’s beautiful but difficult-to-perform canon of church and secular
cantatas were not widely known or appreciated. But with the rise in general education
and the cross-fertilisation of ideas in the developed world, that is changing. Our
numbers, singers and orchestra, are steadily increasing.
One of the key figures in introducing Bach’s music to the British public was Paul
Steinitz who performed 200 of them with the London Bach Society in London over a
period of thirty years.
